Lincoln University Spring Fling 2011

On Friday 8th of April 2011, DJ Herk and I took on Lincoln University! Herk was contracted to do the comedy show after party in the gym and a couple weeks prior asked me if I wanted in on the party. I'm thinking School Daze, A Different World and etc... so of course I was game. The pictures above show you what how big the gym was and the set up we used. What Herk did was basically bring out a whole concert set-up, including lights, just for a party. He takes this stuff serious, as he should, but I was personally overwhelmed!

Event promoters and artist are all way too familiar with the anxiety that comes with an event. We spend the whole beginning wondering things like: are people coming, how many people, what time and etc... Even though this is a historically black institution in the middle of no where and the people have very limited options when it comes where to go out, doors opened at 10p and at 1130p there was a crowd of only several dozen. In a matter of 30mins, that gym filled up like we were giving out free Iphones.

The party was fun. DJ Cashmere who dj'd the comedy show came through and warmed the crowd up with some bangers. He actually played a lot of classic instrumentals back to back which had me nodding the whole time. DJ Herk came on around 12:30is and took it home from there making his way around the map touching the crowd with music from every region. The people were dancing in general but it was fun to watch the pockets of people from different places react to their music. Pittsburgh got it in to Black & Yellow while DC folks were singing Sexy Lady at the top of their lungs. There are not many things that compete with the college experience. A whole bunch of people with a new found freedom to trying to explore and find their own identity. The outfits were outrageous! Females in see-through tights with a thong and only a bra. Dudes running around with no shirts flaunting fraternity skin brandings on their chest which have yet to heal all the way. Classic.

So the party was crazy. Unfortunately, I didn't come from behind the barrier because I was scarred to mingle with a 16yr old. Basically, I didn't want to have an Akon moment! My highlight was the end of the night when DJ Herk threw on some TSOP and had everyone in the building electric sliding. BBD's, Poison always does it and you couldn't tell me that the average age in the crowd wasn't 40years old.

Shout out to everyone that came out and thanks for having us.
